A daily skincare routine is crucial for healthy skin. As the largest organ, your skin is the first defence barrier for your immune system: seasonal changes, exposure to cooling temperatures, and indoor central heating dry out the skin. You should regularly moisturise and apply serums to boost cell renewal. Ditching harsh exfoliating scrubs for gentler peels and masks will brighten your complexion. A face wash containing coarse particles will eventually wear away at the skin.
Dark skin
Glycolic acid is too harsh for darker skin as it creates holes between bonds. In comparison, lactic and citric acid offer a softer alternative by clearing dead skin cells, with each use revealing a glowing complexion.
The body shop provides a gentle daily citric acid cleansing wash and skin peel. For blemish-prone skin, weekly face masks of 2% Salicylic Acid target acne at the root. The clay clarifies and reduces inflammation, removing bacteria, the cause of spots. It is enriched with a BHA or beta hydroxy acid, which evens out pigmentation.
Serums
Apply a serum before your face cream to retain moisture and eradicate wrinkles. Adding a couple of drops of Hyaluronic acid at night allows the skin to absorb water. Use serums before bed to avoid exposure to UV lights. Try to layer no more than three products onto your face at a given time. Drops of Youth from the Body Shop also gives you protection from environmental pollution. It is safe to apply to the face morning and night.
Multi-protection cream
Climate change allows more harmful rays to filter through the atmosphere harming the skin. To prevent your exposure apply a daily defence cream to protect you from the UVA, UVB, pollution and harmful free radicals. Dark skin is also susceptible to the effects of the environment, and good protection will reduce the risk of premature ageing.
Makeup or no makeup is essential to feel confident in your skin. Developing a routine will make you look and feel good from the inside out.
