There are positive aspects to a healthy ego. Self-confidence, Self-esteem and Self-love are necessary factors to fuel your development. While we are often encouraged to check our ego, applying a balanced outlook is a positive driving force. Successful entrepreneurs utilise the transformational power of healing to work with a healthy ego.
A strong sense of non-self is required to go beyond our ego, but what does that mean exactly? Low self-esteem can trigger reactive behaviour, which can affect the ability to hear criticism. Mental resilience is built through positive and negative interactions. To succeed in business, you must have a reflective mindset that involves learning from negative feedback too. Emotional intelligence is deeply rooted in our ability to empathise. Separating the emotional reaction allows you to process a critique without losing your confidence. At times, feedback can feel like a personal attack. A strong emotional response can reveal unhealed feelings of unworthiness.
Childhood scoldings leave their mark. Comments such as ‘you are stupid’ and ‘you do not know how to think for yourself’ hinder mental development. When faced with criticism as an adult, the hurt child inside reacts to the comment.
Unlearning old programming, you shift your mindset taking intentional steps to create the life you want. You begin to view negative comments as positive points to learn. Viewing each interaction as an opportunity to grow gives you the mental flexibility to adapt to your business or career. By nurturing a healthy ego, you can envision yourself fulfilling any goal you set as you genuinely believe that you deserve to succeed.
Learning to love your ego
Healthy ambition is necessary to live a deeply fulfilled life, so treat yourself with love and compassion. When the voice in your head makes a negative comment, challenge it, ask yourself if you would say this to a friend.
Healthy communication
Sit down at dinner with your family to discuss the good and bad points of each day. Encourage everyone to listen from a space of compassion to offer meaningful advice. Create a safe space for your children to process their emotions and communication without judgement. Be mindful of how you speak to them. Discuss alternative viewpoints, and avoid negative phrases. You will all learn to communicate clearer by understanding how each person came to their perspective.
