Hey guys,

Lets chat about the big A word.

Not long ago NUA had a LIVE in our instagram about anxiety, it was an amazing live where many women came together to share their experiences and sent us private messages to share their struggles.

Anxiety such a real thing.

What is Anxiety?

as described in the dictionary: a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome. "he felt a surge of anxiety"

anxiety does not knock at your door and introduces herself to you... Anxiety just is... and for a long time people tend to believe is nothing when is a state of being triggered by different things.

Anxiety is the most common mental illness and adults between 30-44 seem to have the highest rates, the reason it is so common nowadays is unknown but we can link and assume that the amount of time one spends in social media, lack of healthy habits (mental and physical), poor sleeping habits and how they feel about themselves which in turn is also affected by these negative behaviours we tend to have.

Types of Anxiety:

Generalised Anxiety disorder: when someone has an excessive worry on they day to day that can interfere with daily activities, usually worry extremely with little reason.

Obsessive Anxiety disorder (OCD): someone who has repetitive, unwanted thoughts

which are irrational and excessive leading someone to act a specific way at time uncontrollably. Is an obsessive and uncontrolable behavior which most people with OCD are aware of.

Panic Disorder: intense fear which turns into regular panic attacks.

Post Traumatic stress disorder (PTSD): caused by traumatic past events such as, after war, post birth, accidents.

Social anxiety Disorder: when someone feels obsessively worried about socialising with others, feeling overwhelmed and self-conscious about being judged by others or being ridiculed having great thoughts of being embarrassed.

Other phobias: an extreme fear of something or a situation.

Common symptoms of Anxiety:

More about anxiety;

The causes of anxiety in a person is not yet fully known, however there are things research have suggested to contribute to it, such as genetics, stress, childhood experiences, alcohol and drugs use and other medical conditions.

There are things that can be done to help tackle this disorder and soothe the symptoms as

If left untreated it can have serious repercussions.

I will jot down a few holistic ways that we have discussed in a blog, however if it is serious and you are worried about it please do seek a doctor, this article is in no way a substitute for doctors advice.

Holistic ways that helps:

  • Remove yourself from the environment.

  • breathe

  • run water over your pulses

  • find a routine

  • exercise

  • write (journaling)

  • find a purpose/ a focus

Things you can do to help someone with anxiety:

  • Ensure they feel understood

  • listen to them

  • don't ignore their worry

  • acknowledge their fears

  • remind them to breathe

INTERESTING FACTS:

- Anxiety is persistent and uncomfortable, often people take long to accept they are suffering from it, due to the stigma and fear.

- iT is possible to overcome by changing your behaviour.

- Women are more likely to have anxiety than men

- Anxiety left untreated can impact ones life seriously (becoming unable to do the simplest things)

Super we came to the end of this article, touching on this subject which is so common and usually ignored by many.
